about the author
I'm Ava, 30 years old and from Germany. :)
I work with pharmaceutical databases full time, while also completing a university degree (Bachelor of Laws) part time. My focus is data protection law, for which I have also gotten certified separately as a consultant. Next to all that, I also volunteer as a Country Reporter for noyb.eu, the European Center for Digital Rights, meaning I translate and summarize court decisions around data protection law for their wiki, the GDPRhub.

Topics that end up finding their way into my posts are the intersection of tech and law, observations around social media, reclaiming the web and our devices, and health; but aside from that, I am very into open source, right to repair, archiving and preserving, piracy, cracking and modifying devices, blocking ads and tracking, and car-free cities.
Aside from this blog, I have a matcha blog and a website where you can also find little coding projects, like a diceroller, fridge magnet poetry, my poem collection and more. Just interact with the laptop!
Next to work, studying, volunteering and blogging, I spend my time with fitness, books, drawing/painting, embroidery/cross-stitch, games, and working on little projects.
- I love pixel art and glitch art the most. You can see some of my art in the gallery or in my posts.
- Books I can recommend: The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin, The Dance of Connection by Harriet Lerner, The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk, No Logo by Naomi Klein, The Refusal of Work by David Frayne. ➜ related: my personal canon
- I play a lot of board games and card games as well as pen and paper roleplay sessions; things like the Cthulhu PnP, Magic the Gathering, Arkham Horror, Mansions of Madness and Star Wars: Imperial Assault.
- I play a lot of cozy farming games (Stardew Valley, Coral Island, Palia, Animal Crossing, Hello Kitty Island Adventure etc.) but I am also a big fan of Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Coffee Talk.
- I have separate pages for my bricksets and my big castle.
- I sometimes sew, embroider, or modify my stuff. ➜ related: projects
Something that's important to me is to be grateful, reflect on my behavior, and be firm in my boundaries and needs. I want to show people that they are safe with me and how much is possible even with chronic illness, which is also a reason why I am so personal online and do not hide my illnesses.
