about the author
I'm Ava, 29 years old and from Germany. I work with pharmaceutical databases fulltime, while also doing a bachelor of laws parttime. My focus is data protection law, for which I have also gotten certified separately recently, meaning I can soon work as, and can call myself, a data protection officer. I have to get re-certified every four years.

I enjoy coding from time to time. Aside from this blog, I have a matcha blog and I also have a website where you can also find little other projects, like a diceroller, fridge magnet poetry, my poem collection and more. Just interact with the laptop!
Topics that end up finding their way into my posts are the intersection of tech and law, observations around social media, reclaiming the web and our devices, and health; but aside from that, I am very into open source, right to repair, archiving and preserving, piracy, cracking and modifying devices, blocking ads and tracking, and car-free cities.
Next to work or studying, I spend my time blogging here, reading, drawing into my notebook, exercising, gaming, building bricksets, or working on little projects.
- I love pixel art and glitch art the most. You can see some of my art in the gallery or in my notebook entries.
- Books I can recommend: The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin, The Dance of Connection by Harriet Lerner, The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk, No Logo by Naomi Klein, The Refusal of Work by David Frayne. ➜ related: my personal canon
- I play a lot of board games and card games as well as pen and paper roleplay sessions; things like the Cthulhu PnP, Magic the Gathering, Arkham Horror, Mansions of Madness and Star Wars: Imperial Assault.
- I play a lot of cozy farming games (Stardew Valley, Coral Island, Palia, Animal Crossing, Hello Kitty Island Adventure etc.) but I am also a big fan of Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Coffee Talk.
- I have separate pages for my bricksets and my big castle.
- I sometimes sew, embroider, or modify my stuff. ➜ related: projects
Something that's important to me is to be grateful, humble, and ready to admit my own mistakes while also respecting myself, and being realistic and firm in my boundaries and needs. I always want to reflect on my own behavior, ask for help if needed, and to take purposeful, deliberate actions that serve me and others.
I want to make people feel valued and have an aura where it is safe to be vulnerable with me; this is also a reason why I am so personal online, and do not hide my illnesses. I refuse to treat myself like a brand that I need to advertise.
