sunday gratitude
I really love Sundays now. I used to hate them, and sometimes I still get that sinking feeling, but I mostly managed to transform it into a better day.
It’s my gym day and going definitely lifts my spirit. On the way there and back, I see lots of dogs and sometimes get a treat for myself from the local café. And at home, I enjoy really resting. Napping whenever I want to and how long I want to, drifting in and out of consciousness. Taking a hot bath. Playing on my Steam Deck. Just chilling on the sofa with a blanket while my fiancée sits next to me streaming Magic the Gathering Arena on to the TV, or doing crosswords together. Watching our favorite creators or documentaries (especially the SWR Handwerkskunst). Getting head or feet massages. Putting rosemary oil on my scalp. Just watching her sewing a project by hand. Sitting around and doing or thinking nothing. Meditating. Reading my RSS feed and writing my blog posts in the Notes app while she scrolls Tumblr next to me.
And ugh, I love the quiet. Having no pressure, no time restraints, no appointments. Almost no car outside. Almost no shops being open1. It really adds to this whole atmosphere of rest and relaxation, focusing on quietly being together. I’m typing this right now at 8:38pm and it’s literally dead silent, as if we were in a house in the middle of the forest instead of a big apartment complex.

In case anyone doesn’t know, most shops are closed every Sunday in Germany. Bakeries, restaurants, gyms, museums and cinemas remain open, for example. But other retail is closed.↩
