propaganda i’m (not) falling for
I’ve seen this trend online of “propaganda i’m not falling for” via secondhand exposure to social media stuff (mainly through friends), and I think it’s kinda funny. It’s basically a way to list trends you aren’t participating in or want nothing to do with. Some also do the reverse of listing trends that got to them.
Most do it in a lighthearted way (though I have also seen some that really take it over the top!) and it’s not usually used for literal propaganda, just a joking exaggeration.
I thought: Why not? It’s funny to share and get to know people via their answers.
So, propaganda I’m not falling for:
- needing social media
- having to monetize all your skills or hobbies
- everything-apps
- small social media clones being the superior indie web experience
- needing engagement to have fun online
- long posts being bad and wasting people's time (my longest post is my most popular one!)
- paying >60 Euro for games
- most newsletters (I am only subscribed to two :^))
- meta blogging being bad
- posting challenges (like posting every day for x days)
- using Substack
- week notes (I might do quarter notes, and I do have my life snapshots pages!)
- AI optimism (hey, I hope I am wrong!)
- linen clothes (my wife loves linen, but I hate how easily it creases and how scratchy it is before you’ve worn it enough)
- being unable to make a difference
- privacy pessimism (“i have nothing to hide; they surveil us all anyway”)
- preventative botox and fillers
- your personal website needs to be accessible to everyone
- fabric softener
- nonchalance and never showing that you’re trying and genuinely care about something
- return to office
- olives
- screen protector foil
- doing things by yourself being sad or cringe
Propaganda I am absolutely falling for:
- oat milk
- matcha (started in 2017 though!)
- charms on everything - phone cases, bags, keys etc.; currently working on making one of those kpop photocard holders but for some of my MtG cards or characters I like (Tinybones!)
- sunscreen
- affirmations
- journaling
- crop tops
- 30s being better than your 20s
- buying a lot of stickers
- drawing with highlighters (esp. zebra midliners)
- cycle syncing (both the planning around the cycle and syncing cycles with other people)
- liquid meal drinks (I drink Huel and you can totally roast me for this)
- lip stains
- hating on most Universes Beyond MtG sets
