tech i'd like to see more of
I'm always shitting on so much tech on here, why not balance things out? Tech I'd like to see more of (or that I'd like to see emerge):
- More accurate map services with more options especially for walking or things along the path. If I ask Siri or Apple Maps to show x store along the path of active navigation, why can't it do that?
- More improvements in image translation and live translation
- Better screen readers, transcribing and subtitle generation; I think the automatic YT subtitles have been getting worse for years
- Automatic creation of alt text for images upon upload, maybe
- Better image recognition for things like automated recycling sorting and similar work
- Responsible and safe AI in biomedical research and medical data1
- More tech to show, track, predict individuals and companies with the biggest environmental footprint2
- More sea cleaning and carbon storage, more clean renewable energy3, smart grid management, better energy demand forecasting, tacking the issue of renewable energy conservation, more affordable solar panels for all
- Possibly ways to sustainably and responsibly increase crop yield in difficult to farm, drought-ridden areas and poor areas; needed more and more as climate change increases extreme weather events
- Improvements in natural disaster prediction
- More digital learning, free tutorials and DIY videos, accessible information, remote universities and degrees
- Tech improving diagnostics, personalized medicine, drug discovery, telemedicine
- Improvements to existing tech enabling non-invasive blood glucose monitoring, early heart attack detection and blood pressure tracking via wearables etc.
- Enabling more mobility for all, through increasing the availability and affordability of elevators, escalators, electronic wheelchairs, better public transport, self-driving cars etc. (I actually like Waymo; though obviously, I would prefer trams, trains and buses)
Can't think of more at the moment, so that will have to suffice.

The focus is a lot on generative AI outputting images and text, and I think that's shit slop, but if biomedical researchers online say other applications of AI can help them, who am I to judge? I don't know enough about their field, so I'll just trust them on that for now.↩
I know this one clashes with my usual data protection law interest, but I think a livable planet trumps the privacy rights of a handful of individuals and companies should be transparent about this anyway...↩
Not a fan of nuclear fusion, sorry. I know all the arguments, I've considered them thoroughly, and I'm just not convinced for now, possibly never will be.↩
