music questions challenge
I love that the challenge format is having a little revival right now. :) I think it's good for getting to know people, as blog prompts and to share stuff you wouldn't otherwise have shared. I was actually writing a post about music when this challenge dropped, so I'll share it here instead.
This one is the Music Questions Challenge created by TakenVaullt.
1. What are five of your favorite albums?
This one is tough for me because I basically never listen to full albums anymore, spare a few exceptions. I often just know or end up liking 1-2 songs of an artist. But there are some. Here are 3, at least...
- Random Entry ランダムエントリー by Haircuts for Men. Quote: "this is an analog ONLY release. none of these tracks will ever be released by me digitally. it is up to you to trade amongst yourselves to complete the collection." You can listen to it on YouTube, someone uploaded it there and offers download links.
- THE MUSE by Qveen Herby.
- Memento Mori by Depeche Mode. That, or Violator.
2. What are five of your favorite songs?
Can I have 6 songs because I have less albums? :P
- A Walk by Tycho
- MANIC by COBRAH
- VEGAS by ABRA
- Drowsy by brillion.
- Good Days by SZA
- Hëłłœ Kįttÿ by Alice Longyu Gao
3. Favorite instrument(s)?
Oh god, uhm. The kalimba. I own one. I want to learn how to play some of the Stardew Valley soundtrack on it.
4. What song or album are you currently listening to?
I last listened to Best Life by lunaluxe.
5. Do you listen to the radio? If so, how often?
No, never.
6. How often do you listen to music?
In general, I keep my home very quiet. I don't usually put on music, especially out loud over speaker. I know many others who just keep anything running at all times in the background, and they jokingly to refer my home as "the library". I never get the idea to put something on just because; either it's something specific I want to listen to, or for a boardgame/card game session, or to study. If there isn't a specific reason, I just don't play anything, and it's usually over headphones. When people in my home desperately need background music, I usually put on my lofi playlist, my cafe atmosphere playlist, or stuff on Youtube from the Cryochamber label.
7. How often do you discover music? And how do you discover music?
Not often, I kind of have an aversion to checking out new music on my own. It usually happens because Spotify or YouTube keeps autoplaying. That's how I discovered Haircuts for Men, for example; I was sewing with YT in the background and suddenly it played that.
8. What's a song or album that you enjoy that you wish had more recognition?
The EP WAIL! by Sophie Hunter.
9. What's your favorite song of all time?
Probably Policy of Truth by Depeche Mode.
10. Has your taste in music evolved over the years?
Yes. I used to listen to a lot of sad, aggressive, self-pitying stuff. But in the recent years, I almost exclusively listen to empowering, upbeat, confident music that hypes me up and helps my self esteem. I think it has made a difference :) I mean things like Qveen Herby, Dounia and Megan Thee Stallion.
