cooking reths lettuce soup (palia)
So, I occasionally like to try out making food or drinks from games.
I recently started playing Palia, and one of the characters is a cook whose lettuce soup is hated almost universally in the game town. There is one character in game, the vegetarian monk, who likes the soup due to its simplicity of only having two ingredients. You guessed it, it's just lettuce and water, or broth.
The in-game item description reads:
A special all-lettuce vegetable soup. Handmade by Reth.
Lettuce soups apparently aren't that ridiculous. While I never heard of one before this, there are actually lettuce recipes from all kinds of countries and cultures.
I initially asked other players how they would make the soup. Some really stuck to the ingame description, others suggested a few other ingredients and spices. So I decided to try both - the strict original, and an improved version.
Left pot has the improved version with
- Broth
- Lettuce
- Cilantro leaves
- Garlic
- Onions
... right pot has the original (broth + lettuce).
Unsurprisingly, the recipe with more ingredients is better! The original just tasted like grassy broth. I get why all the villagers don't want it.
Other than that, cooked lettuce doesn't taste or feel that different to cooked bok choy. I think next time, I will add more salt and small chunks of carrot to the improved version. Useful to get rid of lettuce that is about to go bad in the fridge.
