is food delivery over?
I think I’m finally at a point where I’ll never order food from restaurants again. My negative experiences just accumulated and this year was particularly egregious.
The prices have been getting higher and higher, making it honestly not worth it. I get it when the general costs are rising, but even when the grocery prices relax again, nothing is corrected downward again. It just stays expensive. At the same time, I feel like worse ingredients are used - both in general (simply buying cheaper brands or items), but extra so for delivery customers (wilted lettuce, undercooked or overcooked stuff, stale fries and breads/buns), together with shrinking portions every few months. They’re even stingy with pizza toppings.
I used to like delivery; the food was fresh and good quality, portions were generous, the drivers were on time or even early and I tipped. They were super friendly. Now no matter what, the delivery is at least 20 minutes late. Items are missing, the wrong stuff is included, it tastes bad. I don’t see why I should tip for that anymore. It’s not just one restaurant where I live, it’s all of the ones I tried over 4 years but one that went to shit.
A while ago the same delivery guy was rude to both me and my fiancée on separate occasions. In my case, he was an asshole to me because the building’s elevator was broken and he didn’t wanna come up the stairs (second floor). Like I’m sorry but how is that my fault? I was literally also sick and mostly bed bound and this abled fucker was mad he had to take some stairs.
Now today, a delivery driver arrived almost 30 mins late to the wrong destination, repeated again and again on the phone that he was right and at the correct address. Passersby told him he was at the wrong address (thank you especially to the random lady I heard through the phone) and then suddenly he shifted to blaming me for entering the wrong address (I checked, it was correct). It took him way too long to show up here even though the locations were like a street apart. When he did, he didn’t apologize or anything. Then I opened the box, wondering why the burger wasn’t wrapped as usual, but the wrapper was crumpled around the burger. Then I saw why. Guys, the delivery dude took a whole bite out of the burger.
I’m done. That’s enough. I’m paying so much for inferior food, food that gets cold and gets delivered too late, without the restaurant ambience, just to get insulted and the food bitten into. And no, these aren’t the delivery app’s badly paid hired drivers. All the restaurants here opt to do it with their own staff. I can’t even order on their own website or whatever because they shuttered those to only offer their services through the delivery app.
Seems like the golden days of food delivery are over, at least for me in this area.
