custom browser startpage

A little over a year ago, I started using a custom startpage in my browser. I know some browsers let you customize what you see (more or less), but it's super limited. I want control over the entire design, colors and links. No news, no ads, nothing about their new projects. And I want it to stay the same across updates.

There are browser extensions that offer a variety of startpages that tend to be minimalist, distraction-free and productivity focused. With options to add to-dos, check them off, enter motivational quotes and block websites. But that's not really what I was looking for either.

Then I saw others who just coded their own, hosted it where ever they already had their website hosted and set it as startpage in their browser settings... and I began to do the same.

I initially made one in Decker for fun (I can only recommend that software, it's super cool and the possibilities for presentations, websites, minigames etc. is endless; there are little competitions as well where people showcase their creations and you can learn how to code in Lil).

The first iteration looked like this: decker (If this isn't moving, wait a little bit; sadly gifrecorder adds a long pause at the end...)

I refined it bit by bit, and later moved away from Decker and just made a plain one. It currently looks like this:

startpage

Sadly, Firefox doesn't seem to allow to set custom links as browser startpage anymore, but thankfully my daily driver LibreWolf does.

Maybe someone else feels inspired to create their own :) Let me know and show yours if you create one!
