getting back into coding with a game

I talked in another one of my posts about falling out of love with coding. Recently I had the itch for it again, but I neither wanted to have to wrap my head around webdev stuff again (though I am curious about the CSS @property Ryan Mulligan recently wrote about) nor jump back into The Odin Project or the Rust handbook. I needed something more playful, easy and frankly at least some hand holding (lol).

So I finally got a game I had on my wishlist for a while now, which is "The Farmer Was Replaced". It's still early access.

From the store page:

Program and optimize a drone to automate a farm and watch it do the work for you. Collect resources to unlock better technology and become the most efficient farmer in the world. Improve your problem solving and coding skills. [...] Programming is done in a simple language similar to Python. The beginning of the game is designed to teach you all the basic programming concepts you will need by introducing them one at a time.

This is what it looks like: TFWR

So far, I love it, even though I am really slow. I haven't even made it through the tutorial yet because it is really thorough and long; you have to play for a while to gather enough resources to unlock new features in the feature tree (basically like a skill tree) and then learn to use them and possibly integrate them into your already existing code. And honestly, because I love messing around with code and making the drone do funny flips or move in erratic patterns through the field. I also love creating challenges or problems for myself in this tutorial part because it's like an endless mode where the game won't bother me because of time or objectives.

I hope I can make it out of the tutorial at some point and see what the actual challenges are, but so far, it's been pretty fun.
